What is the Difference between Womens and Mens Wedding Bands? The question is often asked what is the difference between mens wedding bands and womens wedding bands? Often when you search a jewellers range you will see "wedding bands" advertised without specifying whether or not they are womens or mens wedding bands. Often also if you have a look at the styles of a particular ring you will see the same ring with one price for men and another one for women. There is often little difference between womens and mens wedding bands. The major difference is usually not in the style of the band but in the width. Generally a mans hands are thicker and chunkier than a womans hands. Therefore a narrower band looks better on a woman and a wider one tends to over power her ring finger. Men however tend to find that wider bands look better because a narrow one will be almost lost on his hands. This accounts for why you often see the same ring with a different price for men and women. Usually the mens ring is wider and so uses more material and so is more expensive. This varies of course from individual to individual. There are men of shall we say, moderate stature who may well prefer a narrower band of say 4 to 5 mm and larger women who may prefer awider one. A larger man may prefer his mens wedding band to be much chunkier, around 7 to 10 mm, depending on his hands and fingers. Celtic Wedding Bands can be 10 mm or more in width. The width of a mens wedding band also varies with the style of the band, for example Celtic Wedding Bands are generally much wider than the norm. This is just the nature of Celtic Wedding bands. There is of course a difference between womens and mens wedding band materials and jewels. Women love diamonds and, if they can afford it (or he can) will happily have diamond engagement rings and a diamond insert in their wedding band. Men on the other hand tend to go for a more "masculine" material such as Platinum or Titanium. Diamond wedding bands are less common for men, although certainly not unheard of at all. It's just that other materials are often the first choice for men and diamonds the first choice for women. The bottom line when it comes to comparing womens and mens wedding bands is that it is all a matter of choice. It's what appeals. There are no rules at all about what a man should wear and what a woman should wear. It's totally up to the couple. If she loves Platinum and he loves diamonds, then fine. If you're like that and want a matching set then get a Platinum set with diamond inserts. Just remember to consider different widths. Read our Unique Mens Wedding Ringse page.
